This May we launched the all-new, members-only TIA Advocacy Insights Podcast, hosted by Chris Burroughs, TIA’s Vice President of Government Affairs. This new podcast provides TIA Members with updates on TIA’s advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill, as well as general Congressional and policy updates impacting the 3PL industry. The Advocacy Insights Podcast also features Scott Marks, TIA’s Government Affairs Manager.

Together, Chris and Scott serve as guides to TIA Members, navigating the complicated processes and inner-workings of Capitol Hill and cutting through the political jargon—providing clear guidance and real insights. TIA’s Advocacy Insights Podcast is more than just an update on the efforts of Chris and Scott on Capitol Hill. It also provides TIA Members with valuable information on how they can successfully advocate on behalf of their own business, TIA, and the 3PL industry. From insights on effectively communicating with congressional offices to distinguishing between permissible and impermissible activities while lobbying, the Advocacy Insights Podcast provides TIA Members with the information and tools they need to become an advocacy wonk—regardless of whether they’re inside or outside the Beltway!

In the first episode of TIA’s Advocacy Insights Podcast, Chris discussed the importance of government affairs to both TIA Members and the broader 3PL community. This episode highlighted the different ways advocacy interacts with Members of Congress to move legislation beneficial to 3PLs forward. In Episode 2, Chris discussed the ongoing conversations surrounding records to be kept by brokers, specifically section 371.3 of Title 49 of the code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR § 371.3). To hear more and stay up to date on the latest advocacy efforts, be sure to check out the episodes by visiting the TIA website at tianet.org/podcasts-advocacy/.

Amidst the COVID-19 global pandemic, TIA has striven to make sure we are more accessible than ever to our members. Weekly Lunch & Learn webinars from the Education Department have helped the industry to stay informed and up to date on best practices during these trying times. In addition, TIA’s COVID-19 Response Center has been a key factor in getting information quickly and efficiently to the industry. Along with these additions, members will soon have access to TIA Connect—a new online community exclusively for TIA Members. TIA Connect will allow members to ask questions, share experiences and discuss strategy. This robust platform includes message boards, a member directory, direct member-to-member only messaging, and the ability to share files and browse upcoming events. TIA Members will have the ability to join any number of communities and network with members who share similar challenges and opportunities. The ability to connect, share, and discover new ideas has never been easier!
