Just how much freight do third-party logistics companies (3PLs) and brokers move for tens of thousands of shippers every day? To answer that question, consider this: The $185.7 billion third-party logistics industry is 1.7 times the size of the beer market and four times larger than the candy market.
In fact, one of every three of the largest shippers in North America uses one or more 3PLs to meet their freight carrying capacity needs. That activity accounts for a large and growing portion of more than 10.5 billion tons of freight – more than 75 percent of all cargo – that trucks haul every year in North America.
